The elements of contemporary dance were borrowed by classical, modern dance & Jazz styles. Contemporary dance was introduced by Merce Cunningham in the twentieth century. He was considered to be the first choreographer for such a dance form & he commenced the ‘Merce Cunningham Dance Company’ in 1953, which gradually made the contemporary dance popular.
